The Japanese annual Buddhist event of Obon that commemorates one's ancestors ends today in Japan. Let us pray for God to stir in Japanese hearts as this time draws to a close, that they will be granted eyes to see that there is life, true life, found in no one or nothing but Christ Jesus.
Obon (the “festival of souls") is a time in Japan where it is believed that ancestors' spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives. During this time Japanese people traditionally return to their family graves to pray to their deceased family members and ancestors, as well as to clean the grave sites and make food offerings.
Let us pray that God would awaken Japanese hearts to the truth that their prayers are not being heard by their ancestors, snd let us pray that they will turn to the one who hears and answers when we call to Him. Pray for Japanese people who are dying of thirst to come to see how truly thirsty they are, and pray that they may come to drink from the living water that is found in Christ alone.
