Weekly Prayer (Oct 17th, 2023): Pray for Japanese people to come to be granted the grace to come to the One who has the words of eternal life (John 6:68-69).
In John 6, Jesus feeds the five thousand, and then he speaks about how he is the bread of life (v. 35): "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in my shall never thirst.'
A lengthy discussion goes on between Jesus and the Jews, and in the end, many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with Jesus (6:66). So Jesus asks the twelve disciples if they want to go away as well (6:67).
"Simon Peter answered him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God'" (John 6:68-69).
Let us pray for the Japanese people today, that they will come to know and believe in the One who has the words of eternal life. Everything they are trying to put their hope in apart from Christ will ultimately fail or disappoint. The things in which they are putting their hope can never save them, but the true Light, the Light of the World, can save them from their sins and bring them into his glorious kingdom.
Please pray for the Lord to continue to draw many Japanese men, women, and children to Himself, and that they will see that there is no where else they can go, for Jesus alone has the words of eternal life. He alone is the holy Son of God who has atoned for the sins of the world. Let us beseech God to give them eyes to see and ears to hear the good news of Christ. And let us plead with God to make his gospel go forth mightily among the Japanese.
In Jesus's Name we pray all these things. Amen.
