Weekly Prayer: July 6th, 2020

Pray for God’s mercy over those affected by the flash flooding that has been affecting Southern Japan since July 4th. Pray for those still missing to be rescued and for the heavy rainfall to cease.

Saturday morning in Japan brought record-breaking rainfall to Southern Japan that led to deadly flash flooding. The following is from a CNN article:

“Rescue workers in Japan are beginning a desperate search for survivors after dozens were left dead or missing following widespread flash flooding triggered by record rainfall on the southern island of Kyushu.

Local authorities confirmed at least 18 people had died and 14 were missing in the prefectures of Kumamoto and Kagoshima, with images from the hardest-hit areas showing houses completely destroyed by the strength of the flood waters.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a warning Saturday for unprecedented rainfall, calling for residents in Kyushu to take “maximum caution.” At least 270,000 people were told to evacuate in four prefectures across the island.”

Other sources say that at least 50 people have died and searches are ongoing for those who are missing and still stranded.

--Please pray for God’s mercy for rescue workers to be able to find those still in great distress and in need of help.

--Pray for those who have been evacuated, that the Lord will provide for their needs and ultimately use this event to draw them to Christ Jesus.

--Pray for Christians and the church in Japan, especially in the affected areas, to show the love of Christ in word and deed during this crisis.
