Let us pray for the Lord to grant more and more Japanese people to have eyes to behold the Lamb of God, Jesus, who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
One of my most treasured passages in Scripture is found in John 1:29-34. John the Baptist sees Jesus coming toward him, and he cries out, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” And then John bears witness about how he saw the Holy Spirit descend like a dove and remain on Jesus (v. 32). In verse 33-34, John the Baptist continues, “I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
In the next verse, which takes place the next day, John sees Jesus and repeats, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” Then two of John’s disciples followed Jesus. They went from the friend of the Bridegroom to the Bridegroom Himself. Let us pray for many more Japanese people, more than we could number, to turn and go to the Lamb of God who cleanses us from our sins. Pray for God to enlighten the eyes of their hearts, that they may come to see Christ for who he really is and put their trust in Him.
John came to bore witness to Jesus. He pointed people to Christ. Let us pray for ambassadors of the Gospel in Japan to be faithful to preach the gospel to the Japanese people, and in all things, may Christ’s name be glorified.
Let us ask all these things in Jesus’s Name. Amen.
