Weekly Prayer (November 1st, 2021): As we begin a new month, let us pray for the Japanese people to draw near to the one who alone can give them living water (John 7:37-38).
Last week, during our prayer time for Tokyo while riding the Yamanote line around the city, the Lord's Jesus's call for all who are thirsty to come to him and drink kept coming to my mind. As I looked around the train I saw so many tired people, several of whom could not stay awake (even at 10am in the morning).
In John 7:37-38, we read:
"On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
We know Jesus calls those who labor and are heavy laden to come to him, and he also calls those who thirst to come. Let us pray that the Lord will awaken in millions of Japanese souls a thirst for God, for salvation from their sins and reconciliation to the Lord through Christ. Let us pray for them to realize how thirsty they are and that then they may find everlasting life, true hope, in the reigning Lord Jesus.
Last week, while praying around the city, the Lord brought Keith and Kristyn Getty's song to mind called "Living Waters," and a few of the lyrics are as follows:
Christ is calling
Find refreshing
At the cross of living waters
Lay your life down
All the old gone
Rise up in these living waters
Let us pray for more Japanese than we can count to answer, by the grace of God, to answer the call of Christ to come.
